Filter Operation
This filter is a recirculation system that is dependent on the movement of pond water to the filter where is comes in contact with natural organisms which feed on the available nutrients. From the research conducted we have found that no two pond are the same in ecology and in remediation.
Therefore it is suggested to consider the following practices:
• Bench mark the pond water chemistry when you start the filter to establish a baseline for nutrient concentration and water condition. Do this each month and record the data.
• Check the water flow into the filter to determine if the pump needs to be removed from the pond and cleaned. Disconnect the power before you clean the pump.
• Check spill way for obstruction that may cause filter over flow.
• Remove leaves and grass clippings that may fall into the filter.
• For the first year it may be necessary to add 10-12 ounces of Filter Boost solution each month to the filter to maintain the biofilm. To do this, turn the filter off, add the solution and wait two day before plugging the filter back in. Pond water testing will indicate if this needs to be done.
• When the pond water temperature is above 50d F. add one scoop of powder bacteria on a monthly basis to reduce the accumulation of organic sediments in the filter media. This condition may cause the gravel media may turn black and reduce the efficiency of the filter.
